Street style fashion is majorly influencing the high fashion brands and has become just as prominent as the runway shows.
Not a new phenomenon, streetwear has been around for decades. Rooted in hip-hop, surf, skate and sportswear culture, it centres on casual, comfortable clothes like jeans, T-shirts, caps, hoodies and sneakers etc.
Fashion brands design and create limited edition street style clothing and accessories, using social media, mainly Instagram, to create a hype and interest among the youth.
A cash cow for a high fashion brand, street style wear found its feet with the millennial but is gaining an equal ground with their parents as well because of affordability and comfort it offers.
Women on the runway or the street seem to be mirroring the bold, rebellious and free spirit of the 60’s women. As a response, the hemlines are steadily rising by the year. Prints, patent leather, suede and denim, there are minis of all kinds on the streets.
Like how! Moving away from the last few years’ cries for colour, glitter, patterns, and a commonly held belief that wearing black won’t get one noticed, there is a drastic change this season. Black is back! In a quirky, ornate and eye-catching way. Asymmetrical LBDs, fluffy accessories, tulle dresses, in stark black, rule the roost.
The 60s and 70s really seem to be leaving a mark on streetwear this year. The boho-chic look is back – hip prints, breezy outfits, petite sandals and beaded necklaces, the works!
